If you want to be perfectly honest, the pickup truck as we know it is a pretty rudimentary machine. It is little more than a frame supporting two boxes, a solid axle in the rear, and an engine and transmission up front. The Ford F-150 available in Elgin is an intelligent design, so much so, that there has been little reason to change it over the years. Sure, Ford has improved it. Today’s truck uses lightweight materials, plenty of safety and driver assist options, and great new engines and transmissions. The initial task is still the same; haul people in comfort while all the material is kept in the back.
What Is New for 2018?
Ford made some changes for the 2018 model year. There is now a new 3.6-L V6 engine, which replaces the 3.5-L V6; it is more powerful and is more fuel-efficient. The ever-popular 2.7-L V6 and the 5.0-L V8 are also more powerful, and these two engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Every Ford F-150, regardless of trim, has auto stop-start. Rounding out the changes is front and rear styling.
Comfort
The Lariat crew-cab is one of the more popular models, and the seats, both front, and back, are very comfortable and provide ample support for all day driving. The ride is smooth; however, the 4×4, designed for off-road work, is slightly stiffer as can be appreciated. Road and wind noise have almost been eliminated; engine noise is muted when cruising.
Utility
Never forget, the Ford F-150 is a truck, even though it is extremely comfortable. There are plenty of anchor points in the bed to ensure any load, no matter how awkward, can be secured. There is plenty of space for small items, and as the floor is level, with the rear seat down, there is ample room for in-cab storage.
