For those that are planning on customizing their wheels for a BMW M3 vehicle, choosing staggered wheels offer a lot of different advantages and benefits. As a luxury vehicle, you want the BMW M3 wheels to match the car and create the look as well as the driving experience you want.
The option to choose BMW wheels in either a staggered or a non staggered configuration is important. Both will give a unique look to the vehicle, but there are other considerations to think about as well.
The Basic Advantages
With the option to have staggered BMW M3 wheels, the two rear wheels are slightly larger than those on the front. This is typically a wider wheel on the back, which can be an advantage on rear wheel drive vehicles to allow for more traction and more surface of the tire on the road.
Even those just driving in the city under normal traffic and road speeds will notice that the slightly wider and larger rear wheels provide additional control when cornering.
Additionally, when the drive wheels have more surface contact with the road surface, there is more acceleration from a stop because there is more grip and traction. The slightly larger wheels will also have a wider lip, giving a more robust look to the rear of the vehicle and also adding more of a racing or sporty look.
Staggered BMW wheels can also include a slightly larger diameter wheel as well. This is typically not more than an inch. Keep in mind this isn’t a big difference with either width or diameter, so it is not going to be extremely obvious or create an unbalanced look from front to back. Even with the slightly wider or larger diameter wheels, they won’t stick out from the vehicle because of the offset.
Considerations
One of the most important considerations with staggered BMW M3 wheels is that it is not possible to rotate the tires from the front to back. With most people driving the BMW M3, this isn’t an issue, but it may be a consideration for a small number of drivers.
With the staggered wheels, there may also be a slight reduction in fuel economy as there will be more friction between the tire and the road. Again, this will be minimal, and it is rarely a factor in choosing the staggered over the non staggered BMW wheels.
